About Epithalon

Epithalon (Epitalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide — Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly — originally developed by Professor Vladimir Khavinson at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. It is one of the most studied peptides in aging biology, with its primary mechanism of interest being the activation of telomerase — the enzyme responsible for maintaining telomere length at chromosome ends. Telomere shortening is widely regarded as a molecular clock of cellular aging; telomerase activation represents a potential lever for extending cellular replicative capacity. In vitro studies have demonstrated Epithalon's ability to elongate telomeres in somatic cells, while in vivo rodent research has reported improvements in antioxidant enzyme activity, normalised melatonin secretion, and extended lifespan metrics in aged animal models. Human observational data from Russian clinical settings has reported improvements in sleep quality, immune parameters, and cardiovascular biomarkers. Epithalon is also investigated for its role in regulating the hypothalamic-pituitary axis and normalising circadian neuroendocrine function.
